The next stage of this exciting project saw Year 8 students welcome representatives from the Royal Society and the University of Sheffield to Maltby Acdemy.
They presented their investigations from the project to our visitors with confidence and articulated their scientific understanding with exceptional skill. The first of the bird boxes, which were made with support from Mr Swift and the Design Technology department, were put up on site. Further boxes are scheduled to go up soon.
Dr Naylor, working with contacts from the zoology faculty at the University of Sheffield, has established a fascinating study into the local bird populations around the MA campus. Culminating in a joint bid for a grant from the Royal Society, Dr Naylor has secured the funding for feeding stations, bird boxes and remote cameras that will stream onto the MA website and help in the collection of viable data which the zoology department at the University will analyse and contribute towards national bird population statistics.
