Year 8 students are making nest boxes after school as part of the 'Secret Life of Birds' project.
Students taking part in the Secret Life of Birds project were invited to make some nest boxes with the help of the Design and Technology department.
Using instructions from the RSPB website, the students had to work in groups to measure the correct dimensions of the wood, cut them out using saws and assemble them carefully to produce nest boxes that will be installed around our school site. The students also had to decide which birds they wanted to encourage to use the boxes and select the appropriate size and position of the entrance hole.
We are hoping to see great tits and blue tits using the nest boxes this school year and we will be capturing their behaviour using wildlife cameras.
