History trip to Thackray Medical Museum

Year 10 History students enjoyed a trip to Thackray Medical Museum, Leeds.

Students explored 'Disease Street', an exhibit designed to imitate a real-life street in Leeds from the 1870s. They got to look inside different buildings, and even got to smell what Leeds would have smelt like 150 years ago.

Students also engaged with a GCSE specific workshop on World War One and its impact on medicine and health. They got to handle artefacts from the time, including shrapnel, and different helmets and gas masks. Students also got to smell the smells of World War One - including the scents of Phosgene and Mustard gasses, which they unanimously decided smelt disgusting!
