Voting has now begun for the UK Youth Parliament. House Captains are delivering ballot slips to all tutor groups so make sure you fill it in and have your vote in the next couple of days.

Good luck to Y11 students Abbie Lyon and Helen Howarth who hoping to be elected.

The UK Youth Parliament is all about giving young people the opportunity to have their voice heard. For more information go to the UK Youth Parliament website.

Abbie Lyon has just been to London to visit the Houses of Parliament. Read her diary of the day  below:

Due to my involvement with UK Youth Parliament, I was lucky enough to be invited on a trip to the Houses of Parliament. I had a great time even though we had to meet at 6:15am that morning! We started the day with a tour of the Houses of Parliament including entry into both chambers, the House of Commons and the House of Lords. After the tour had finished we made our way to a meeting room upstairs to meet with the local MP, Denis MacShane, where we were able to pose any questions we had for him and find out about his role locally. Denis MacShane was able to get us seats to observe a debate between the Foreign Secretary David Miliband and the Shadow Foreign Secretary William Hague, debating Foreign Commonwealth Affairs. I enjoyed this as they mentioned events such as the Haiti earthquake and it was interesting to hear what the government were doing about the disaster and their different opinions and views.
