Key Stage 3 (Y7, 8 and 9)

All students study the following: English, Mathematics, Science, Modern Foreign Languages (French and Spanish), Technology, History, Geography, Physical Education, Information Technology, Art, Music, Drama, Cultural Studies and Enterprise.

For Mathematics, English and Science every student in Y7 and Y8 will be entered for an end of year test known as an Optional Test.
In addition, we offer 2 discrete pathways at KS3 developed to further meet the individual needs of students.

Orange Pathway

This pathway is designed to support the young people who require extra support to develop literacy skills. This programme will provide specialised provision co-ordinated by our SEN department. For 17 of the 25 lessons per week the children requiring additional support will attend lessons in English, Maths, Science, ICT and Humanities to study projects which address the Personalised Learning and Thinking Skills from the new KS3 curriculum. The students will have their own learning base and have an allocated specialist lead teacher. The teachers have developed innovative and engaging projects and work closely with our colleagues from Key Stage 2 to ensure the smooth transition from primary school.

Green Pathway

Within this pathway, similar specialised provision is planned to meet the needs of indentified students. For 17 out of the 25 lessons per week a small cohort of youngsters will follow the Green Pathway for at least the first half term. This Pathway is aimed at students who have difficulty engaging with much of the mainstream provision and will benefit from the additional support from our learning mentors.

Youngsters will get the chance to study themed and alternative courses in curriculum areas such as Maths, English, Science, ICT, MFL and Humanities. There will be an opportunity to study externally accredited courses to develop team building, problem solving and the Personalised Learning and Thinking Skills. The students will have the opportunity to move back in to and from the mainstream curriculum at the end of each half term.

Key Stage 4 (Y10 and 11)

All students study the following core curriculum: English (including Language and Literature), Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Physical Education, Information Technology.

In addition to the core provision we offer a range of pathways developed to meet the individual needs of students. Pathways include a full range of academic GCSE courses, a mixture of academic and vocational GCSE's and other specific courses developed for students with Special Educational Needs.

Careers Education is also a key part of the KS4 programme.

Key Stage 5 (Y12 and 13)

The KS5 curriculum further enables the students to specialise their learning by choosing either Advanced Level qualifications in vocational or traditional subjects. We have a successful Sixth Form with many students progressing on to Further and Higher Education.
